Cannabis - An Old and a New Medicine
Willy Notcutt (Consultant in Pain Management)
Willy has been investigating the clinical application of cannabis for many years and is a world renown expert. His talk reviews the historical place of cannabis in medicine, and how it can be used clinically nowadays. His discussion on the endocannabinoid system is enthralling, as is his discussion on the possible clinical entities that could be helped with this treatment. There is strong evidence which supports the use of cannabinoids for chronic pain, but more research is needed to determine how it can be integrated into practice.
Currently Sativex has a licence to be used in MS treatment, and Nabilone has a licence to be used in chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.
